A few 2010 performance upgrades arrive in the form of a shorter 5th gear ratio and a lighter clutch assembly. The ACR package gains a short-throw shifter and revised rear wing. Otherwise, most of the changes are cosmetic and include limited-edition paint schemes and a tan interior and soft-top package.
Introduction. The 2010 model year marks the end of the line for the second-generation Dodge Viper, and quite possibly the end of the Viper altogether. Since the original concept car debuted in 1989, the Viper has embodied the brash American spirit of excess. It captured the imagination of automotive enthusiasts and still manages to turn heads today. The Viper is, as it has always been, an untamed road-going beast that’s as tricky to drive as it is gratifying.
With Dodge now falling under the Fiat automotive empire’s control, it’s likely that this is the final year for the Viper. We’ll mourn the loss, mostly because of the Viper’s unapologetic nature. The styling reeks of testosterone-fueled rage. It’s powered by a massive 10-cylinder engine that roars with an unbridled rawness. It even lacks the kind of electronic driver aids that now permeate the modern sports car market — no stability control here to save your bacon when you run out of talent on a racetrack.
If this is indeed goodbye and the 2010 Dodge Viper‘s back-to-basics, hard-core persona appeals to you, then you’d better get one while you still can. American muscle cars appeal to a largely nostalgic bunch, and the companies that make them never hesitate to pillage their own past to please the customer. And so Dodge is announcing the second coming of the Challenger Yellow Jacket and the third coming of the Charger Super Bee, both of which are offered only in SRT8 guise for 2012.
As with the previous Charger Super Bee, which was offered from 2007 to 2009, the new one is basically a paint-and-stickers deal, with the now-traditional Super Bee graphics on each rear quarter panel, plus a matte-black rear spoiler and a gloss-black cross-hair grille. Two color schemes are available, the most extroverted being Stinger Yellow with a matte-black hood applique. It also comes in Pitch Black with charcoal-gray appliques for customers not so keen on so much chroma on such a big car. Production will be capped at 500 units for each color.

The Challenger Yellow Jacket borrows its name from a show car that toured the auto-show circuit beginning in 1969. It comes only in retina-searing yellow, and features a blackout grille, a body-color rear spoiler, and a spear-like black stripe running the length of the vehicle. A new Yellow Jacket logo and script are set within the stripe at the back. Production will be limited to 1000 for the year.
Both bees ride on new 20-inch five-spoke wheels with painted insets, and also receive unique interior treatments with yellow and silver accents. The Charger Super Bee seats are upholstered in cloth, while the Challenger Yellow Jacket indulges in cowhide. Both cars have their respective stinging-insect graphic embroidered on the seats.
As 2012 SRT8 models, the Yellow Jacket and Super Bee are powered by the wicked 6.4-liter V-8 with 470 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. As we’ve noted in previous tests, the numerous updates made to the SRT8 Challenger and Charger for 2012 greatly improved them. A two-mode adjustable suspension is included on the Yellow Jacket, as are steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters for automatic models. Neither package will be offered on R/T or base models, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see more-affordable versions leave the Dodge hive in the coming years. Ordering begins in December at a price that is yet to be announced, and the first deliveries are expected in the first quarter of 2012.

Three Dodge SRTs to compete for charity in upcoming Targa Newfoundland rally. Chrysler’s SRT brand will be fielding three entries in the Targa Newfoundland road rally, but the cars won’t just be competing to win: together, they will race to raise $50,000 for the Autism Society of Newfoundland and Labrador.
SRT’s three teams will include a race-prepped 640 horsepower 2010 Viper SRT10 piloted by Chrsyler exec Ralph Gilles and Jen Horsey, a stock 2012 Challenger SRT8 392 in the hands of comedian George Notaras and Nick Chambers and, finally, a specially prepared 2008 Challenger SRT8.
The Targa Newfoundland road rally covers 1367 miles of challenging public roads and will take eight days to complete after its start on September 10th.
Chrysler has entered a 300C SRT8, Dodge Charger SRT8, Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8, Dodge Caliber SRT4 as well as several Challengers in prior Targa events. Last year, the company fielded a restored ‘70s Dodge Dart muscle car driven by previous winners Roy Hopkins and Adrienne Hughes.

The 2012 Dodge Durango is expected to be a continuation of the all-new 2011 Durango. The new Durango is part of Chrysler’s immense undertaking in releasing a whole new fleet, including: the recently revamped Jeep Grand Cherokee, the 2011 Dodge Challenger, and the 2011 Chrysler 200 and 300 sedans and coupes/convertibles. The previous Durango, as well as its corporate sibling, the failed Chrysler Aspen, was discontinued in 2009. Now, Dodge is attempting to breathe new life into its SUV line.
The new 2012 Durango is reportedly a brand new truck from bumper to bumper. The design boasts a much sleeker, aerodynamic form; gone is the oddly-shaped previous generation truck. The result is a much less bloated Durango. The new body is significantly leaner and muscular–and resembles the first Dodge Durango built in the 90′s (which was a huge hit), except this one is modern and has some serious attitude. The tail is what’s especially interesting. Look closely and you’ll recognize a strong resemblance to its corporate cousin–the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Just as Chrysler puts the finishing touches on the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, our spies have captured its platform mate, the 2012 Dodge Durango/Magnum (we still aren’t sure what the final name will be), out testing near the company’s Auburn Hills, Michigan headquarters. Not much has changed since the last time the new Dodge crossover was spied, but seeing the prototype running around near Chrysler HQ means that more of the swirly camouflage could be coming off in the next few months.
When the new Durango/Magnum officially launches next year, expect it to be available with Chrysler’s new 3.6-liter V6 and possibly a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 (much like the new Jeep). The front end looks similar to that of the Ram pickup, and since the Ram brand has been spun off to house Dodge’s truck offerings, don’t be shocked if the new Durango falls under that umbrella. If development and testing continue at a steady pace, we’ll likely get to see the finished product at either the 2010 Los Angeles or 2011 Detroit Auto Show.

Dakota is offered in two body styles – Extended Cab and Crew Cab. Trim levels on the Extended Cab include ST and Big Horn (Lone Star in Texas only). Available Crew Cab trim levels include ST (Ext Cab Only), Big Horn (Lone Star in Texas) and Laramie.

The 2011 Dakota comes standard with a 3.7-liter Magnum® V-6 engine that generates 210 horsepower (157 kW) and 235 lb.-ft. (319 N•m) of torque.
The available 4.7-liter V-8 incorporates two spark plugs per cylinder (the only Chrysler engine to do so, other than the 5.7-liter HEMI®), which provides increased compression ratio, improved cylinder-head port flow and combustion system. The result is 302 horsepower (225 kW) and 329 lb.-ft. (446 N•m) of torque. The 4.7-liter V-8 is also equipped with electronic throttle control (ETC) and is E85 compatible.
The 3.7-liter V-6 is backed by a standard four-speed automatic with overdrive, while a five-speed automatic is standard on V-8-equipped models.
The 2011 Dakota features a ladder-type frame, with hydroformed main rails fully boxed for strength and rigidity. All models feature an independent front suspension with coil-over shock absorbers.
